New Website Goes Live
Friday, August 25, marks the launch of the newly redesigned website for Acadia National Park. Not only was the site's look redesigned, but also navigation was improved so that you will spend less time searching for the information. The redesign has occurred for all 390 National Park Service areas, whether they are national parks, monuments, recreation areas, or historic sites.

Many of the sites, including Acadia's, are in a transition phase. Currently you can still find information on the park's "expanded" website at www.nps.gov/acad/home.htm. By September 2007, all park information will be consolidated into the site you are visiting now. Until that time, you might have to visit both sites to get all of the information you need. Please be patient; we are adding new information to this site every week.

Check back often to see what's new and have fun exploring the improved website!

Hawkwatch Begins: Discover Migrating Birds of Prey from Cadillac Mountain!
On August 22, 2006, Acadia National Park began its eleventh season of Hawkwatch atop Cadillac Mountain. At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain allows you the chance to catch a glimpse of migrating birds of prey soaring on strong updrafts. Each year, thousands of raptors from Maine and Canada travel south along the eastern coastline on their migration to warmer areas for the winter.

Join park rangers and volunteers for Hawkwatch every day (weather permitting) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from August 22 through October 12, 2006. Learn about raptor migration and identification. Bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them, and wear warm clothes. The Hawkwatch site is located along the Cadillac North Ridge Trail, 200 easy yards from the summit parking lot. Discover the thrill of spotting these birds of prey from the highest point on the eastern seaboard!
